Hermann Hauser II "Llobet", 1969
Spruce / CSA Rosewood
This rare 1969 “Llobet” model from Hermann Hauser II is an extraordinary example from the golden postwar period of his career, a time defined by refinement, balance, and tonal purity. Built on the shorter 642mm scale length, this instrument offers exceptional comfort and an immediacy of response that makes it one of the most inviting Hauser designs to play.
The bearclaw spruce top is visually striking and contributes to the guitar’s crisp, lively articulation across all registers. Paired with Brazilian rosewood back and sides, it delivers a voice that is transparent, warm, and harmonically rich, equally suited for intimate recitals, chamber work, or solo performance.
Hauser II conceived the “Llobet” model as an homage to the early 20th-century instruments built by his father, Hermann Hauser I, for the great Miguel Llobet. This lineage shines clearly here: a perfect blend of Spanish warmth and German clarity, captured in an instrument that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
Sound & Character
This guitar captures everything players prize about the finest Hauser II instruments: crystalline clarity, balanced projection, and a lyrical sweetness throughout the register. The trebles glow with an elegant warmth, while the basses are rounded and full without dominating.
It responds easily to a light touch yet opens beautifully when pushed, maintaining composure and balance across the full dynamic range. The slightly shorter scale makes legato effortless and brings an engaging immediacy to every phrase. It is an instrument that rewards expressive playing, making every note feel intentional and alive.
Condition & Details
Despite more than five decades of life, this guitar remains in excellent condition for its age. There are the expected nail marks and light playwear, but no deep dings or major blemishes. Two expertly repaired cracks, one on the top (lower bout) and one on the back, are the only notable restorations, both stable and professionally executed.
The top’s aged spruce patina and fine bearclaw figure add visual character, while the Brazilian rosewood back and sides display vivid orange and brown hues framed by delicate green purfling. The neck is slim and C-shaped, offering low, effortless action and a highly comfortable playing experience. Original Landstorfer tuners remain in excellent working order.
