For years I’ve been hearing wonderful things from people I trust about the guitars of Michel Belair, and I finally had the chance to get my hands on one. Now I understand the hype, and why they are so difficult to get!
This guitar is one that you command, not the other way around. What shines to me is its evenness, sustain, power, and elegance. In no particular order, because they are equals.
You’ll hear me say the same things in the video, which you should be sure to watch. This is a guitar that you can trust. The sustain is even on almost every single note, especially in the difficult areas above the 12th fret. The trebles pop off the guitar and have that shimmer to them. It has a very quick response, and it comes to volume extremely easily. This makes you feel that you have to push less, and lets you enjoy the music more.
Most interesting is the beautiful, low main air resonance of the guitar, assisted by the “waveguide” installed in the guitar, which acts like a mini-tornavoz. This was designed by Dennis Tolz, which you’ll see after a quick glance under Michel’s label.
Aesthetically, this guitar exudes class. Its understated, matte finish bridge and Friederich inspired headstock is so simple, yet so tasteful and wonderful to look at. The finish is immaculate, and the woods seem to be of the highest quality.
Well, what else can I say that the video wont? Maybe just that this guitar is near-pefect in every way. Atleast, it appeals very strongly to my sensibilities, and I have a feeling it would to yours, well - that is if this one wasn’t already on it’s way to it’s new owner.
In the coming years, Michel will be building some instruments for my shop, so please write if this instrument would pique your interest!
