Nils Schebesta, 2025
Cedar / Indian Rosewood
Overview
This brand new 2025 concert guitar by German luthier Nils Schebesta announces a striking new voice in modern European double top construction. Built specifically for GuitarCollection.com and delivered at the end of 2025, this instrument marks the start of Schebesta’s exclusive North American collaboration with GuitarCollection.com and stands out instantly for its exceptional clarity, lightning-fast response, and astonishingly lightweight build. At major festivals and player gatherings, Schebesta’s guitars have become a topic of conversation among players and collectors encountering them firsthand.
Schebesta’s work reflects a meticulous attention to structural detail and tonal balance. This guitar features a cedar double top with a spruce inner layer and balsa core, executed in a distinctly individual way. Rather than following more familiar balsa constructions, the internal structure shows careful mass control, finely tuned bracing, and a thoughtfully engineered back system. The guitar feels immediately alive in the hands; even before playing, the low mass and free vibration of the strings signal just how efficiently the instrument is built.
Sound
From the first notes, the guitar recalls the best characteristics of the modern German school: fast response, deep yet controlled bass, and a level of transparency that places the player fully in command of the sound. This is a super lightweight, highly responsive German-style double top, aligned with the lineage of makers such as Matthias Dammann, Michel Brück, and Carsten Kobs.
At 1,355 grams, just under 3 lbs, the guitar feels almost weightless when lifted from the case. That low mass translates directly into immediacy and sensitivity, with the instrument responding to the smallest changes in the right hand and offering exceptional control over articulation and color. The basses are open, deep, and resonant without becoming loose or unfocused. Despite the power and light build, sustain is excellent, with notes blooming naturally and evenly, and the trebles are clear, silky, and refined, never brittle or forced.
Playability
This is a guitar that rewards a controlled and intentional right hand. It gives back exactly what the player asks for, making it especially appealing to players who value precision, nuance, and tonal authorship. The custom C-shaped neck is thin and comfortable, the heel is slim and weight-reduced for improved upper fret access, and the setup is low and comfortable.
Construction & Design
The craftsmanship throughout is exceptionally clean, with precise joinery, a flawless finish, and a cohesive visual language that reflects a confident, mature hand. The rosette is a clean, geometric design with restrained elegance, and the raised ebony fingerboard and Barnett tuners with engraved plates complete the presentation.
