Michael Cadiz, 2018

Spruce / Pau Ferro

This beautifully crafted guitar was built by Michael Cadiz in 2018. Originally from the U.S. and now based in Austria, Cadiz has steadily earned a reputation for building exceptional, traditionally braced guitars that combine the warmth and color of the classic Spanish sound with the clarity, projection, and modern responsiveness players crave.

This example is an excellent showcase of his work. The guitar features a spruce top with a stunning, detailed rosette, and a beautifully figured set of Pau Ferro back and sides. The orange, brown, and red hues in the wood are striking in person. A raised fingerboard adds comfort and accessibility to the upper frets, while the thin, C-shaped neck and low action make it incredibly easy to play.

The tone is immediately captivating—crisp, clear, and articulate, yet capable of shifting into a bold, aggressive Spanish voice with ease. The basses have a warm, cello-like quality and deep punch, while the singing first string adds the kind of lyrical, expressive presence that invites you to linger in the upper registers.

Notably, this guitar delivers excellent projection and volume, holding its own next to modern double tops and lattice-braced guitars without sacrificing the traditional aesthetic and feel.
