Key Features

This 2025 guitar from Jeremy Cooper of Tucson, Arizona represents the continued evolution of one of today’s leading voices in double-top construction. Known for his mastery of tone color, projection, and effortless playability, Cooper has spent over two decades refining his craft and more than a decade developing his balsa-core double-top design. The result is a sound that combines warmth, focus, and clarity with exceptional responsiveness and control.

No. 124 features a balsa-core double-top with a Western Red Cedar outer soundboard and Spruce inner layer, producing a complex, luminous tone that blooms under the lightest touch. The Ebony back and sides add power and depth while maintaining a smooth, rounded treble. The result is a commanding yet lyrical voice suitable for the concert stage or studio alike.

Tonally, this guitar offers a beautifully thick and weighty sound that feels alive under the fingers, never thin or brittle as some double-tops can be. Its resonance is deep and sustained, with a sense that the entire body is vibrating rather than just the top. The balance across registers is superb, and the sustain and bloom continue to open up as you play. There is a notable richness in the middle and high registers, allowing colors and phrasing to emerge naturally without effort. Despite its power, the instrument maintains warmth, sweetness, and control, making it as rewarding for intimate phrasing as it is for larger dynamic contrasts.

The mahogany neck and elevated African Ebony fingerboard follow the same design used in the guitars Cooper built for the Assad brothers, who both perform on his instruments in concert today. That elevated design enhances projection and sustain by transmitting more string energy into the soundboard. The guitar is finished with Scheller tuners, a V-jointed headstock, and Cooper’s trademark attention to detail throughout.

Cooper’s guitars have become highly sought after by discerning players worldwide, often compared to those of Müller, Kobs, and Tolz for their power, color, and musical range. This 2025 example captures the essence of what has made his recent work so celebrated, offering a blend of strength, sweetness, and refinement that invites the player to explore its full expressive potential.
