Greg Smallman & Sons, 2026

Cedar / Ziricote

Overview

This brand new 2026 Greg Smallman is an extraordinarily rare opportunity. New guitars directly from Greg Smallman almost never become available on the public market, and this is the first brand new example we have ever had the privilege to offer.

Built with a cedar top and a breathtaking set of ziricote back and sides, this guitar represents the unmistakable Smallman concept at the very highest level: immense dynamic range, effortless projection, remarkable clarity across the fingerboard, and a responsiveness that allows the player to access an enormous palette of color with very little physical effort. While many players speak about volume when discussing Smallman guitars, what truly separates the great examples is not simply power, but the refinement and control with which that power is delivered.

This particular guitar is also visually stunning. The ziricote selected for the back and sides is among the most dramatic we have seen from the workshop, pairing beautifully with the elegant cedar top and the unmistakable architectural aesthetic of the Smallman design.

Sound

The sound is immediate, expansive, and incredibly alive under the hands. The guitar produces the sort of effortless response that has made Smallman guitars the choice of many of the world's leading concert artists for decades.

The basses are deep and powerful without becoming bloated, while the trebles have exceptional density and sustain. What stands out most is the evenness across all six strings and throughout the entire register of the instrument. Notes bloom quickly, carry easily into a hall, and maintain clarity even under aggressive playing.

Despite the tremendous projection, there is still warmth and beauty to the tone. This example has a particularly refined and musical character, balancing the modern Smallman power with an unusual amount of color and sweetness.

Playability

As expected from a top-tier Smallman, the playability is exceptional. The setup is extremely comfortable, and the guitar responds with minimal effort from either hand.

The neck shape feels fast and natural, allowing the player to relax into the instrument immediately. Combined with the responsiveness of the build, this creates a playing experience that feels almost effortless, particularly in demanding repertoire requiring projection, clarity, and dynamic control.

Aesthetics & Craftsmanship

Greg Smallman guitars are instantly recognizable, and this 2026 example showcases the workshop at its finest.

The ziricote back and sides are visually spectacular, with dramatic figuring and depth that give the guitar a truly luxurious appearance. The cedar top is beautifully chosen and elegantly finished, while the clean lines and refined detailing reflect the confidence and maturity of one of the most influential modern luthiers in the history of the classical guitar.

The guitar is fitted with premium Exagon tuners and includes a premium Leona case.
