Glenn Canin Ex. Celil Refik Kaya, 2016
Cedar / Indian Rosewood
Overview
A rare opportunity to own a historically significant concert instrument from Glenn Canin, perhaps the most respected American doubletop maker and among the finest in the world. Built in 2016, this cedar doubletop was the primary concert and recording guitar of the brilliant Turkish guitarist Celil Refik Kaya. It has been loved and played for thousands of hours on the world’s great stages and studios, and it shows in the sound.
Provenance and Notable Recordings
On this very guitar, Celil won prizes around the world and went on to record five albums for Naxos Records with recording engineer Norbert Kraft. Those releases include:
-
Guitar Music of Jorge Morel
-
Guitar Music of Carlo Domeniconi
-
Agustín Barrios, Vol. 1
-
Agustín Barrios, Vol. 2
-
The Music of Joaquín Rodrigo
See images of the album covers below.
This instrument was also used for Celil’s historic GFA performance (see video below listing)
The Sound
Everything you expect from the finest Canin doubletops, plus the extra depth, bloom, and color that only come from an instrument shaped by a top player over many seasons and thousands of hours of music making. Projection is effortless. The response is quick and even across the fingerboard. Cantabile lines carry with vocal clarity. Separation is excellent in fast passagework. There is a supple, round bass, a singing midrange, and a clear treble that never turns brittle. Dynamic range is wide and controllable at the lightest touch.
