Daniel Friederich, 1994
Cedar / Indian Rosewood
There are guitars, and then there are legends. This 1994 Daniel Friederich concert model is one of the most exceptional instruments I’ve had the privilege of offering, a nearly pristine example from one of the most revered luthiers of the modern classical guitar era.
Friederich’s guitars have long been the gold standard among players and collectors alike, gracing the hands of artists like Roberto Aussel, Alvaro Pierri, and many others. This one, number 718 from 1994, is an exemplary cedar-top model that offers an unmistakable voice, iconic aesthetic, and extraordinary condition.

Sound & Playability
The sound is what truly elevates this guitar. The basses are lush, resonant, and seem to hum beneath your fingers. The trebles, often where cedar tops can fall short, are a revelation: clear, ringing, and endlessly expressive. There’s balance across the registers and a refined tonal palette that reveals subtlety and power in equal measure.
The sustain is remarkable, and the responsiveness is such that even delicate right-hand articulations bloom effortlessly. This is the sound that defined countless recordings. It’s immediately familiar, yet entirely fresh.
Despite Friederich's reputation for chunkier necks, this guitar feels surprisingly ergonomic. The profile is full but easy to adapt to, and the current setup offers superb comfort with just-below-standard action on both bass and treble sides.
Aesthetics & History
Visually, this Friederich is a stunner. The iconic rosette with its wheat motif in yellow-green tones is instantly recognizable. The back and sides are dark, straight-grained Indian rosewood, and the headstock is capped with a piece of figured rosewood, likely Brazilian, housing a beautiful set of Rodgers tuners. Original Fustero tuners are also included.
This guitar was purchased directly from Daniel Friederich by its primary owner of the past 20+ years and has remained in carefully maintained condition ever since. The only blemish is a polish stain beneath the 6th string from a cloth that rested on the guitar while in its case for many years. No dents, cracks, or structural wear.
Final Thoughts
This is more than a guitar. It’s a piece of history and an example of Friederich at the peak of his powers. With its rare condition, superb sound, and direct provenance, this 1994 concert model is as close as it gets to owning the sound that shaped a generation of players.
