The Altamira Hanson Workshop's 1888 Torres Model draws direct inspiration from the iconic guitars of Antonio de Torres, the father of the modern classical guitar. Built with an emphasis on traditional craftsmanship and period-accurate design, this guitar offers a remarkable homage to Torres’ legacy at a fraction of the cost.
This particular example features a solid spruce top and solid maple back and sides, with a Spanish cedar neck and ebony fingerboard. The back incorporates the classic 3-piece Torres style, a nod to some of the most influential instruments in guitar history. The entire guitar is finished with a traditional hand French-polished finish, enhancing both its visual appeal and tonal response.
Top: Solid Spruce, hand French-polished
Back & Sides: Solid Maple, traditional 3-piece Torres style
Fingerboard: Ebony, 52mm nut width
This guitar captures the essence of Torres' original designs, delivering a warm, clear, and highly responsive voice with remarkable projection. The solid spruce top provides a bright, articulate sound with a wide dynamic range, while the solid maple back and sides add depth and clarity to the tone. The traditional Torres bracing pattern ensures a quick response, making it a joy to play both in intimate settings and larger concert halls.
This 1888 Torres model by Altamira's Hanson Workshop is a fantastic option for players seeking a guitar that captures the character and voice of a true Torres without the prohibitive cost of an original. With its historically accurate design and handcrafted quality, it stands as an exceptional instrument for both the serious student and the professional performer.
