Jacopo Giussani

Jacopo Giussani represents the second generation of one of Italy's respected guitar making families. His father Gioachino founded the workshop in Milan in 1976 and has built classical guitars exclusively since 1983, earning praise from artists such as Oscar Ghiglia for clarity, power, and responsiveness. Jacopo came to lutherie through electric guitars and percussion before turning to classical and acoustic building in 2005. Today father and son work side by side in the green hills of Anghiari, Tuscany, where Jacopo collaborates on the concert instruments while developing his own line of simpler, essential classical guitars and guiding the workshop's future.

The Giussani aim, in their own words, is instruments marked by polyphonic clarity, timbral richness, balance, sustain, projection, and volume. The workshop's long production history has allowed broad acoustic experimentation, and the current concert models reflect it: lattice braced cedar and spruce tops, matte finishes that keep the wood lively, doubled sides, soundports, raised fingerboards, and even a soundport tornavoz on some builds. Jacopo's own designs favor minimalist decoration and a familiar, comfortable feel, and the family holds deliberately to sustainable pricing, rejecting the idea that a higher cost automatically means a better guitar.

The Giussanis have built several guitars specifically for us, and each has offered the complete modern concert package. A 2026 cedar lattice with dramatic Honduran rosewood delivered richness, bloom, and strong voice separation, while its spruce sibling with Macassar ebony leaned toward clarity, focus, and architectural projection, ideal for contrapuntal repertoire. Across all of them, the dynamics scale from intimate playing to full concert projection without compression, and the setups are low, clean, and effortless.
