Dieter Müller builds in Biedenkopf, Germany, and stands among the elite of the modern double top school. Drawn early to both music, taking up violin and guitar as a child, and to science, he studied physics at the renowned Marburg University, and that pairing of scientific precision and musicality has shaped his work ever since. His influences run from Antonio de Torres and prominent German makers to Robert Ruck and, above all, Matthias Dammann, whose finest guitars remain his strongest touchstone.

Müller's instruments are cedar and Nomex double tops of striking lightness and power, admired for rich harmonics, long sustain, and outstanding playability. Recent guitars pair the modern soundboard with thoughtful nods to tradition: a Manuel Ramírez inspired headstock, a Hauser style V joint neck, raised fingerboards, and French polish. He has used figured wenge for backs, sides, and even fingerboards to great effect, its density lending depth and authority to the bass register while the voice stays immediate, focused, and clear.

The Müllers that have come through our shop show why concert artists hold him in such regard. A 2025 cedar double top in wenge was incredibly loud yet pure, with crystalline trebles and dark, articulate basses, an instrument that reveals everything in the player's touch and inspires real sensitivity. We have also handled an extraordinary 7 string, built in 2024 for a winner of the Guitar Foundation of America competition, whose low B speaks with impressive authority.
