Douglass Scott – 2025 Cedar / Amazon Rosewood Classical Guitar
Please inquire to reserve the next Douglass Scott guitar to arrive to my shop.
This brand new 2025 instrument by Canadian luthier Douglass Scott showcases the thoughtful balance between traditional construction and modern player-focused design. Fully fan-braced with a cedar soundboard, this guitar offers the warmth and character of classic Spanish-style instruments while integrating subtle innovations that enhance playability, tonal balance, and projection.
Though completely traditionally braced, this guitar features several modern touches: a raised fingerboard, armrest, and a removable soundport plug. The guitar’s mini tornavoz, crafted from ebony, was designed to offset the rise in main air resonance caused by the soundport, adding depth and warmth to the bass without sacrificing clarity or sparkle in the trebles.
The neck profile is sleek and modern—a thin C-shape—with tall frets and low action across a 640mm scale, making it an exceptionally easy instrument to play. Douglas Scott tailored this guitar to the specifications of a modern concert guitarist while preserving the voice and soul of a traditional classical guitar.
Aesthetically, it is a masterclass in understated beauty. The subtle rosette is paired with a matching tie block design, and the Amazon rosewood back and sides show rich dark hues and deep reddish tones under light. A touch of sapwood along the headplate adds visual flair without ostentation. Barnett tuners, with large ebony buttons, provide smooth, accurate tuning and complement the guitar’s minimalist elegance.
