Overview

This exceptional 2026 Tobias Braun was built specifically for GuitarCollection.com and represents one of the finest Romanillos-inspired guitars we have encountered in recent years. Featuring a beautifully aged European spruce top paired with striking flamed maple back and sides, the guitar combines refined elegance with an unusually rich and colorful voice.

The standout quality here is the bloom and sustain of every note. The overtone content is complex yet controlled, with a deep, cello-like bass response and lyrical trebles that remain clear and balanced across the entire fingerboard. Like the finest Romanillos guitars, this instrument achieves remarkable warmth and depth without sounding overly dark or heavy.

Braun’s craftsmanship throughout is exceptional, from the flawless French polish and beautifully executed seven fan bracing to the elegant Romanillos-inspired details found throughout the build. Combined with an ideal setup and highly resonant feel in the hands, the result is an inspiring concert instrument that feels alive under the fingers.

Construction & Design

This guitar features an especially beautiful set of flamed maple back and sides, perfectly matched to the warmly aged European spruce top. The visual contrast is elegant and sophisticated without feeling excessive.

Braun’s Romanillos influence is immediately apparent in the rosette design, bridge construction, and overall aesthetic approach. The craftsmanship throughout is extremely refined, including a beautifully clean French polish finish, seven fan bracing system, mother-of-pearl bridge details, and top-of-the-line Rubner “El Sonido” tuners with Tobias Braun engraving.

Sound & Playability

The defining characteristic of this guitar is the richness and bloom of every note. Sustain is remarkably even across all six strings, with a wide tonal palette and unusual depth of color throughout the instrument.

The basses are warm, focused, and cello-like without becoming boomy, while the trebles remain lyrical and highly expressive. The guitar feels extremely resonant in the hands, with strong vibration felt throughout the neck and fingerboard.

Playability is superb, with a comfortably full neck profile, ideal low action, and excellent responsiveness under both delicate and powerful playing.

About the Luthier

Tobias Braun was born in Germany in 1960 and has spent most of his life in Austria near Vienna, where he continues to build guitars in his workshop in the Vienna Woods.

A longtime student and assistant of José Luis Romanillos, Braun has become one of Europe’s most respected builders of traditional Spanish-inspired concert guitars. His instruments are admired for their balance, refinement, responsiveness, and deep connection to the Romanillos tradition.
