This beautiful guitar comes from one of the most sought-after young builders working in the Granada tradition today—José Vigil. Originally from Asturias in northern Spain, Vigil has quickly built an international reputation for his lightweight, refined, and expressive instruments that reflect both his musical background and the deep influence of Granada's master luthiers.
After years of studying woodworking and immersing himself in the Granada guitar-making community, José established his workshop just steps away from Antonio Marín’s, where he continues to learn and evolve under the guidance of legendary builders like Marín, Rafael Moreno Rodríguez, and others. His guitars have steadily developed into some of the finest examples of modern Spanish craftsmanship, combining traditional aesthetics with excellent playability and a rich, lyrical sound.
This particular 2024 example features a spruce top paired with Indian rosewood back and sides, a classic combination that offers excellent clarity, balance, and tonal warmth. As with all of Vigil's guitars, this one is built with great attention to detail: lightweight, responsive, and designed to project with surprising power for its size. There's a beautiful separation of voices, yet the sound remains full, warm, and inviting, with just enough natural darkness in the tone to keep things interesting.
True to the Granada school, the body is slightly more compact and extremely comfortable to play. The craftsmanship throughout, from the clean lines of the rosette to the understated but elegant aesthetic reflects José’s meticulous approach. His focus on structural integrity, perfect joints, and minimal internal tension results in a guitar that feels effortless under the hands and offers remarkable dynamic range.
Neck: C-shaped, slim and comfortable
Other: Traditional Granada plantilla, lightweight build
Sound & Playability
This guitar delivers everything you'd hope for from a fine Granada instrument: clear, lyrical trebles, deep but focused basses, and excellent note separation. The tone is full of nuance, with a wide palette of colors easily accessible to the player. It's equally suited to intimate, delicate playing or pushing for more volume and projection on stage.
As with all of Vigil's guitars, the playability is outstanding—the action is low, the neck shape is extremely comfortable, and the whole guitar feels alive and responsive under the fingers.
A fantastic opportunity to own a modern Granada-built concert guitar by one of Spain's most respected rising luthiers. José Vigil's waitlist continues to grow, and it's easy to see why—this is a lightweight, elegant, and superbly musical guitar that offers serious quality for the price.
