This 2025 Coclea Thucea Fibonacci by Jialen Chen is one of the most striking traditional-modern hybrids available today. Chen is a direct student of Andrea Tacchi and brings a rare level of refinement to both the visual vocabulary and the tonal architecture of Tacchi’s celebrated Coclea designs. The result is a guitar that is powerful, colorful, responsive, and unmistakably artistic.
The top features Tacchi’s iconic composite layout with a central spruce section and cedar wings. The back and sides are wenge, chosen for its density and dramatic appearance. Everything about this instrument reflects meticulous care. The joinery between the top sections is seamless. The raised fingerboard improves upper-fret access. The rosette and bridge mosaics are executed with inordinate precision and creativity. Barnett tuners with dark rollers and engraved plates complete the look.
Sonically, this guitar has the richness and immediacy that players love in Tacchi’s work. The tone is bold and full with a wide color range, a strong fundamental, and a generous sustain that makes lyrical and romantic repertoire feel effortless. Despite the power on tap, the guitar has an impressive sensitivity at low dynamics. It feels like a true gentle giant, equally comfortable with Spanish repertoire, Bach, modern works, or anything requiring clarity and warmth without restriction.
This is Chen’s latest and finest expression of the Coclea Thucea concept. A work of art visually and musically.

The guitar has a powerful, full, and rich sound that rewards a strong right hand while retaining remarkable sensitivity under quieter dynamics. Basses are fat and punchy with great depth. Trebles are chimey, clear, and sustained. The blend of spruce and cedar may contribute to the remarkable balance of warmth and sparkle, although the overall cohesion comes from the craft as much as the materials.
Chords sustain generously and create a secure, grounded feeling. The instrument never pushes the player toward one tonal approach. Instead, it invites everything from Spanish lyricism to crystalline counterpoint. Many modern guitars limit where and how you can attack to avoid congestion. This guitar does not impose those limits. It feels open and honest in all registers.
