Overview

This 2026 concert model is our first encounter with the work of French luthier Jeremie Geffroy, and it made a strong impression. From the first glance, this is a guitar that screams refinement. Every detail is considered and cleanly executed, from the flawless French polish to the modern, all-wood rosette that breaks from tradition without ever feeling flashy. Geffroy builds with a radial bracing system beneath the top, an approach pioneered by Simon Marty, and while that influence is felt, this is very much its own instrument with a voice and a set of design choices all its own.

Sound & Playability

Tonally, this Geffroy is clear and powerful, with the kind of projection you would expect from a radial-braced top, but without the artifacts that can come with some of the loudest lattice or double top guitars. It is remarkably even in character across the entire instrument, and above all it is clear. This is a fundamental-heavy guitar, the opposite of an instrument that swarms every melody in overtones. Notes separate beautifully within a chord, which makes it a wonderful choice for Bach, Scarlatti, and any player who prizes clarity and voice separation.

What makes that clarity so satisfying is the depth underneath it. The main air resonance sits slightly below F, unusually low for a radial-braced guitar, and the result is a sixth string that throbs with richness even in standard tuning. Rather than feeling treble-forward, the instrument is grounded by a deep, rich bass.

The neck is a thin C-shape with low action, and the response is electric. You can play with a shy, light free stroke and plenty of sound comes out, yet there seems to be no ceiling on how hard you can drive it. Loud, thumbnail-strummed chords are met with the same composure as the quietest passage. It is a guitar that simply keeps giving.

Construction & Design

The back and sides are a beautiful set of old Madagascar rosewood that glows, subtle and classy rather than showy, with a decorative center strip running down the back and an ebony heel cap. The guitar is topped off with a comfortable ebony armrest, seamlessly integrated into the side of the body. A raised fingerboard makes the upper register easy to reach, all the way to the 20th fret, and fine decorative purfling frames the body.

The headstock carries a classy shape with an inlay running down its center and a raised detail on the slots, finished with an ebony veneer on the back for contrast. The bridge uses the scooped-away design originally developed by John Gilbert. Tuning is handled by Aparicio machines made in Spain, understated and exceptionally smooth.

About the Luthier

Jeremie Geffroy is a guitar maker based in France. His approach draws on both traditional and modern methods, preserving the fundamental principles of acoustic instrument making that have been proven over centuries while incorporating contemporary materials and innovations that enhance an instrument's performance, durability, playability, and tone. That balance of the time-tested and the forward-looking is exactly what comes through in this guitar: a deeply traditional sense of craft and refinement paired with a modern bracing system and design sensibility. This is our first experience with Geffroy's work, and we will be seeking out more.
