Overview

Douglass Scott is one of the most in-demand traditional guitar builders working today, known for his ability to blend modern playability and subtle innovation without sacrificing the rich, traditional sound that defines his instruments. This 2023 short scale concert model at 632 mm retains the full, resonant voice of his full-size guitars while offering a more relaxed left-hand feel. At 18 mm shorter than standard 650 mm, it delivers effortless playability with surprising power and projection.

Sound & playability

Sound

Open, balanced, and deeply expressive. The guitar produces a woody core with a singing treble response, strong sustain, and a low-end “grumble” that adds warmth and depth—especially in drop D. The lighter tension of the 632 mm scale enhances responsiveness and allows for a fluid vibrato and nuanced dynamic control.

Playability

This guitar offers remarkable comfort thanks to the shorter 632 mm scale, slightly narrower 51 mm nut, and low action setup. Combined with a raised fingerboard and 20th-fret C, it provides easy access to upper positions. Players with smaller hands—or those simply seeking a more relaxed feel—will find this guitar exceptionally inviting without compromising tonal power.
