Overview

Dake Traphagen is one of America’s most respected traditional luthiers, admired for his responsiveness, musicality, and refined aesthetic. This 2024 spruce and Brazilian rosewood concert guitar has the lively, dynamic character that defines his best work. It is a traditionally braced build with a vibrant, open voice right from the first chord. The guitar features a thin C-shaped neck, a beautifully executed sound port, and upgraded Scheller tuners (upgraded from the Rubner tuners that were mentioned in the video) that complement its classic styling.

The Brazilian rosewood set is elegant and understated, with a clean, vintage-inspired look that suits Traphagen’s aesthetic extremely well.

Tone & Playability

This guitar is a joy to play. The basses have tremendous growl and depth, and they can be pushed quite hard without breaking up. The trebles are crisp, ringing, and forgiving under the right hand. Despite being spruce, the guitar feels extremely open already, with an immediacy that is unusual for a guitar this new.

The response is energetic and dynamic. It behaves like a hot-rod traditional guitar. You can lean into it, dig in, or play with delicacy and it stays stable, projecting beautifully and retaining clarity. Big chords bloom with color. Single notes carry a singing, lyrical quality, especially on the first string.

This is exactly the type of modern traditional guitar that bridges dark warmth with articulate clarity.
