About this Guitar

Few names in the modern Spanish school of guitar making are held in such high esteem as Antonio Marín Montero of Granada, Spain. Born in 1933, Marín first trained in cabinetmaking before moving into lutherie in the 1960s. He was heavily influenced by the work of Robert Bouchet of Paris, whose ideas he absorbed during his visits to Granada. Over the decades, Marín developed his own voice, combining Bouchet’s precision with the deep, earthy resonance of the Andalusian tradition. His shop in Granada became a center of excellence, training and inspiring generations of luthiers who today carry forward his influence.

Now retired, Antonio Marín Montero is celebrated as one of the most important living Spanish luthiers, and his guitars are increasingly rare and sought after.

This 2005 example represents Marín at the height of his powers. Built with a spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides, the instrument is visually stunning and acoustically captivating. The tone has the clarity and refinement Marín is known for, with lyrical trebles that sing, a focused midrange, and a deep, resonant bass. It is easy to play, with a setup that invites expressiveness and nuance, and it stands out even among the already high standard of Marín’s work.

The guitar is in excellent condition, with only the most minor marks expected of a carefully played concert instrument. Outfitted with standard Fustero tuners, it retains its original authenticity and charm.
