Sergio Damián Wilson is a leading figure of the Mexican guitar community as both performer and luthier. He completed his degree in musical studies at the Escuela Nacional de Música of UNAM, studying with Manuel Espinás and Juan Carlos Laguna and taking masterclasses with Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, and David Russell, and his playing has carried him to stages across Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Argentina, China, and Costa Rica. Today he serves as guitar faculty and program coordinator at the Conservatorio de Música del Estado de México in Toluca, where he also keeps his workshop.

As a builder, Wilson combines the traditional craft of guitar making with scientific study of the instrument, focusing on contemporary designs such as the double top. Every instrument is entirely handcrafted in his Toluca workshop, with a deliberately limited production of roughly six to eight guitars per year. His work has earned top honors at the famous Paracho guitar making competition, including first place in the concert category and the Grandes Maestros award, placing him among the most decorated builders working in Mexico today.

Sergio's guitars caught our eye from afar. On his Instagram, he has been sharing some of the most beautiful shots of his instruments and his build process, and we were naturally drawn to his sense of style, his aesthetic choices, and his dedication to the craft. We also noticed that Pablo Garibay has been playing his instruments, a testament to the level of players and musicians that Sergio's work is attracting. "The guitars I'm most excited about right now are my double-top red cedar guitars with Indian rosewood," he tells us, and with only six to eight guitars leaving his bench each year, production is quite limited. We are excited to see what Sergio builds for us, with the first expected in early 2027.
